Coaches Comments:

The last week of 2016, and in typical fashion we had showers in the morning. We moved over to ground 2 for today's game against the Cougars, the last time we faced them we had to cancel the game at half time so we arrive hoping for a better result today! We gained one player back from last week, with Mitchell returning to make us a 9 again. After a quick race from one goal to the other and back, we set out some handball drills. The skill level change over the winter is a real testament to both the program and the coaching, and with this we send our thanks to Dave for his efforts with the kids this year. They are all better players for your time with them, which I am sure I can safely say we all appreciate. The game was actually one of the better ones to watch as a spectator, all the boys seemed to go in with the view to make this one a fun one being the last round of the year and it showed. There were some great skills, and importantly for me, some moments of great teamwork and demonstrating that the boys understand that it is not just about kicking goals. I think this is something we can all relate to, when our boys see family and friends who ask about their Auskick, invariably the first words are a question about how many goals they kicked. I will take that from this season that if we can do something to change this and encourage the questions to be about anything other than the number of goals kicked, we may help the kids play a more enjoyable game and feel less pressured to get a return from their quarter in the forward zone. Well done to all the boys this year, the team have performed well and it was really encouraging for me to have so many opposition coaches comment to me about the quality of the play from our team. Well done to you all, have a good summer!

Best Players:

Zac today impressed me - he is consistently week on week among our best on ground for skill level - but today he stood out for another reason. When it was his turn to play in the forward zone, he spent the quarter ensuring that his two team mates were able to have a kick and get a goal. Zac demonstrated everything that we want to get through to the boys about team work and what being on the same side means, well done Zac.
