Y1 Cheetahs vs Y1 Leopards

Coaches Comments:

Today was one of those mornings where the grass is a bit longer than normal, there was a lot of dew on the ground and your shoes got soaked after 3 steps. The sun was out though, and the boys started off their training with some kicks at goal, running onto a rolling ball to pick up and take their shot. As more kids arrived, we moved to kick to kick between pairs of team mates, it is clear that the skil levels are improving greatly. To start the game, Mason, Mitchell and Declan were in the forward third and took plently of supply from the midfield trio of Oscar, Finn and Zac. With hands on the ball first, the boys took every opportunity to demonstrate the high level of understanding and teamwork across the Cheetahs, moving the ball quickly with handballs when needed, and finding team members with the kick with impressive regularity. Lachie W, Travis and Jaxon made up the final threesome for the team of 9, and put on an impressive display, demonstrating their improving concentration levels along with some developing skills. A rare morning of 4 quarters of dry footy, we ended up in almost warm conditions and the boys took full advantage of the good conditions. At one point, Zac, Oscar and Finn shared a passage of play through the middle which saw 8 consecutive handballs as they moved the ball past their opponents towards the attacking third. In the final quarter, Lachie W moved to make the attacking 3 with Mason and Mitchell, who both demonstrated excellent team work by helping Lachie get onto the goal scorers list. All in all an impressive display by the Cheetahs, and an excellent morning of footy.

Best Players:

Oscar, Jaxon and Mason were all awarded this week. Jaxon stepped up impressively to lead his third of the ground in each quarter. He collected a number of contested possessions and showed excellent concentration throughout the game. Oscar is a marking machine, and this week was no exception. Throwing himself into contest after contest, he came up with the ball more often than not. Mason also had a day out, kicking 5 and also helping his team mates get their turn at kicking on goal too. Well done boys.
