Y1 Cheetahs vs Y1 Pumas

Coaches Comments:

A warmer morning than some that we have had recently, we had a bright clear sky making the kick to kick drills in training difficult for the boys who were looking into the sun. To combat this, we set up in groups of 3 running drills facing away from the sunrise - picking up the rolled ball to kick and handball back to one of the helping Dads. Some of the boys even had the confidence to pull off a bounce of the ball on the run in, which was great to see. The boys were all wearing odd socks today in support of WA Sarcoma awareness week, it was good to see them all get into the spirit and raise a bit of money for a good cause along the way. During the game, we took on 2 players per quarter to even the numbers of our 10 men against the Puma's 15. The boys showed some great passages of play, with key combinations forming in each third. Zac, Finn and Declan all linked up well with a series of handballs through the attacking third in the first quarter - with Mason, Mitchell and Lachlan W doing a good job winning the midfield ball too. After the half time break, Jaxon went on a hot streak, kicking 3 in the 3rd quarter, the first one still with an orange in his hand! Travis did well to rejoin the game after hurting his leg, and with Finn taking a knock to the nose too - it was a banged up side which finished the game strongly, Declan kicking the final goal of the game to send the boys home happy for another week.

Best Players:

Oscar Fricker took a number of great marks today, especially in the defensive third, intercepting the ball on a number of occasions. Mitchell Hudson showed a great sense of teamwork, linking well with his team members - helping to ensure everyone had a kick of the ball and selflessly setting up others with shots on goal. Well done boys.
