Coaches Comments:
The Panthers picked up where they left off last season with a fantastic team performance to start 2016. The boys showed amazing accuracy with their kicking and handballing. I've never seen so many marks in an Auskick game. Running to space was also a highlight. The manning up in the backline was notable too, especially seeing as though it's not something we had discussed. Obviously a few of the boys have been watching the AFL pretty closely. Our aim before the game was to have as many goal scorers as we could and the boys followed instruction perfectly, with 9 or 10 goalscorers for the day. Hamish Mackay's unselfish play in the second quarter resulted in all four of our forward line kicking goals. Great team play Hamish. Along with 11 returning players from last year, we welcomed 3 new Panthers for this season. Brandon, Flynn C and Ben O. They have all fitted in well and I think we are in for a great season.
Best Players:
BEST PLAYER Brandon Pawle marked his first game as a Panther with a fantastic performance that earned him the best player award. His use of the ball and willingness to involve his team mates in the game were a highlight. Great work Brandon. OTHER AWARDS Flynn Convey for a great first up performance for the Panthers, including an incredible intercept mark in the last quarter. Ben O'Shea for his courageous marking and long kicking. I'm not sure the Auskick ground is big enough for Ben's huge right foot drop punts. George Smith for his continued improvement since the middle of last year. George's attack on the ball and willingness to improve is fantastic to see.
