Coaches Comments:
What a weekend for footy. We had a bye this week, so we all got down to oval 4 and used the full ground to practise our drills. We focused on leading to the ball and calling loud. We set up 4 or 5 boys in each third and started with a goal kickout to lead and took the ball down the ground, only kicking when there was a great lead to kick to, to finish with a goal, the boys were fantastic after a few practise runs and really started to understand the importance of leading to the ball. We finished our training with some fast handballing, seeing how many handballs we could do in 1 minute then trying to beat that number. We then got the parents on the ground and played a game of boy vs parent, we have been doing this for 3 years now on all our byes and the boys love it (so do the parents). Everyone gets really competitive (the parents are worse than the boys) and its great to see them bonding with Mum or Dad or both through some footy. It was a fantastic training run and put us in good practise for the Gala day. The boys played a fantastic 3 games of footy, using the leading skills we worked on on Saturday. They were very strong opposition for whoever was playing against them. Rohan really showed off his skills today, taking some great marks. He only kicked to a leading player and used his handballs really well to share the ball around. He called loudly for the ball whenever he was leading to space and went in really hard for the ball all day, great games Rohan. Scott also showed off his skills today. His leading was the best, his kicking was spot on all day, he shared the ball really well and got all his teammates involved in the game, great games Scott. Well done to all the boys for a great weekend of footy, looking forward to next week.
